What is Montessori
What Is Montessori?
Montessori is an education philosophy and practice that fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children and adolescents in all areas of their development, with a goal of nurturing each child’s natural desire for knowledge, understanding, and respect.
Montessori Education is a method of instruction developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1897. Dr. Montessori was the first female physician in Italy and dedicated her life to discovering how children learn. She took a scientific approach to educating children -she observed, created, tested and revised based on her observations. Today, over a century later, psychological research is showing Dr. Montessori was way ahead of her time.
The Montessori Method
A Montessori classroom is thoughtfully designed to offer children opportunities to develop their own capabilities.
Sense of Self
In Montessori class is students stay with the class, and teacher, for the entire cycle, forging a stable community and meaningful bonds.
In a child-centered classroom where learning activities are presented individually to children, students progress at their own pace.
The Montessori Method nurtures order, coordination, concentration, and independence in children from the moment they enter the classroom.
